RECENT HAPPENINGS

Great Turnout for Spring Cleanup!

A big thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Spring Cleanup! After hearing that some residents missed it last year, we made an extra effort to spread the word—and it paid off!

This year, a total of 115 tons were collected—that’s a 35+ ton increase from last year and a great reflection of community participation!

SBC’s team was out in full force with 18 trucks completing 30 loads—a huge effort that helped make the day such a success.

While there will not be another cleanup event until next spring, you can still dispose of items through SBC's regular service:

  • Up to 2 bulk items collected each week
  • Electronics and household hazardous waste pickup available by appointment. Simply contact SBC to schedule a pickup: 312-522-1115.

Affordability Town Hall with Speaker Chris Welch

Thank you to Speaker Chris Welch for visiting Westchester Village Hall yesterday and hosting an Affordability Town Hall with our community. We appreciate the opportunity for residents to hear updates on legislation being considered this spring and to engage in thoughtful questions and conversation around affordability. Thank you as well to all who attended and participated in the discussion!

Celebrate Westchester Recap

Village staff and officials were proud to attend and participate in this year’s Celebrate Westchester, hosted by the Westchester Chamber of Commerce—an evening centered on community, recognition, and giving back.

This year’s event held special meaning as the Village honored Bill Ernst as our Person of the Year. Bill was a true pillar of the community, with many years of dedicated service through the Fire Pension Board, the Centennial Committee, and his longtime career planting countless trees throughout Westchester. The tributes shared were a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact he made.

We also congratulate Village Treasurer Barb Brandt, who was recognized as the Chamber’s Person of the Year. With more than 30 years of support and service to the Chamber, Barb continues to be an incredible asset to both the Village and the community.

Thank you to the Westchester Chamber of Commerce for hosting a wonderful event and for their continued generosity. This year, the Chamber presented donations to several local organizations, including the Village's Shop with a Cop program, which we deeply appreciate!

It was a great evening celebrating the people and organizations that make Westchester such a strong community!

REMINDERS

Hydrant Flushing

The Village of Westchester has begun hydrant testing and flushing. This work is a joint effort between the Westchester Fire Department and Public Works to maintain the Village’s water system and ensure hydrants are ready for emergency use.

Where they are working right now:

  • The area between Haase Avenue and Wolf Road, from Cermak Road to Roosevelt Road
  • Work will continue throughout the Village over the nextcouple weeks

Why hydrants are flushed:

  • Confirm hydrants are working properly for firefighting and emergency response
  • Check water flow and system performance
  • Identify hydrants needing maintenance or repairs
  • Remove sediment from water lines to help maintain water quality

What residents may notice:

  • Temporary low water pressure
  • Discolored water

This is normal and should clear once flushing is complete in your area.

If you see discolored water:

  • Run a basement slop sink or faucet (cold water) for several minutes until the water runs clear.

Thank you for your patience as crews complete this important maintenance to keep Westchester’s water system safe and reliable.
