Illinois Electric Vehicle Rebate Program Extended Through May 2026
Great news for Westchester residents considering an electric vehicle purchase! The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced an extension of the Electric Vehicle Rebate Program application cycle from January 31, 2026 to May 31, 2026.
Program Details
The state has appropriated $14 million for the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, and current applications represent only a fraction of available funding. This extension provides more time for residents to take advantage of significant rebates on electric vehicle purchases.
Rebate Amounts
- Standard Rebate: $2,000 for eligible new or used electric vehicles
- Low-Income Rebate: $4,000 total ($2,000 base + $2,000 additional)
- Motorcycle Rebate: $1,500 for all eligible applicants
Key Eligibility Requirements
- Vehicle selling price cannot exceed $80,000
- Applicant income must not exceed 500% of federal poverty line
- Low-income applicants qualify if income is within 80% of regional median income
- Must be Illinois resident purchasing from licensed Illinois dealership
- Vehicle must be new or used all-electric, legally permitted on public roads
- Must retain ownership for minimum 12 consecutive months
- 180 days from purchase date to apply
Application Process
The Illinois EPA will process all applications received through January 31, 2026, including non-low income applicants. After January 31, 2026, the program will again prioritize low-income applications as specified in program requirements.
