New & Improved Compost Collection Program

The Village of Westchester is pleased to announce the launch of a new and improved compost collection program in partnership with SBC Waste Solutions, offering residents more convenient and cost-effective options for organic waste disposal.

What's New?

The enhanced program includes several significant improvements:

  • Use Your Own Cart: Residents may now use their own cart at no additional cost - no rental required, similar to the yard waste program
  • Secure Lid Requirement: Carts must have a secure, fitted lid
  • Registration Required: Residents must register with SBC by calling 312-522-1115 and follow their provided composting guidelines and list of acceptable materials

SBC Cart Rental Still Available

For residents who prefer to rent an SBC cart, the program offers:

  • Rental carts are still available with simplified pricing
  • Flat rate of $12/month during the collection season (paid in one fee)
  • Multiple size options available for your preference (all same price)

What Goes in the Compost Cart?

Acceptable materials include:

  • Fruits & vegetables
  • Meat scraps & eggshells
  • Bread, grains, & baked goods
  • Coffee grounds & tea bags
  • Yard waste

Important Restrictions

DO NOT put in trash, food containers/trays, plastic, styrofoam, or pet waste. Carts without proper lids or containing unacceptable materials will result in no pickup.

How to Register

To participate in the new compost collection program, call SBC Waste Solutions at 312-522-1115 to register today. You can also visit their website at sbcwastesolutions.com/westchester for more information.
